NZMA Supports Christchurch Colleagues In Calls For Mental Health Service Improvements
Mental health services in Christchurch face particular stresses and strains that need to be addressed, says the New Zealand Medical Association (NZMA).
Research published in today’s New Zealand Medical Journal confirms that medical school staff at Canterbury University reported an increase in both mental and physical health problems after the 2010-2011 earthquakes. NZMA Chair Dr Stephen Child says last week’s earthquake is a reminder that these issues are continuing: for university staff, health professionals and many others in Christchurch.
“These problems are not over for Christchurch and its citizens, and we support our colleagues who are calling for recognition of this fact,” says Dr Child.
